STERLING WHITLEY
I never thought I’d be a rancher. I grew up on this land in Washington, Texas, but I never planned on coming back.
I was living in Arizona, focused on my health, when I started eating bison meat. Something about it just felt right. Not just the food, but the idea of raising these animals in a way that made sense. That’s when it hit me. I wanted to start my own ranch.
The problem was, I had no experience. No background. No clue what I was doing.
But in 2017, I jumped in anyway and got my first six bison. At first, it wasn’t even about selling meat. I just wanted to raise these animals and take care of the land that had been in my family for generations.
Over time, I realized I could do both—run a successful ranch and do it the right way.
I won’t lie, the first few years were rough. I made a lot of mistakes. Spent money on the wrong things. Wasted time figuring things out the hard way. If someone had been there to show me what actually worked, I could have saved years of trial and error. That’s exactly why I created this workshop.
